*Shadow’s a bit surprised, talons slightly pressing against Sonic’s skin. He makes no move to actually hurt the other though. His eyes are wider. What was Sonic doing?

He nods, slightly confused. Yes, he had people. A couple hundred thousand that depended on him. But he didn’t know them like he knew the heroes or anything.

His muzzle flashes a tiny bit red for a second. Does he have to keep bringing that up!? His hand are released and Shadow lets them stay by his side limply.

Shadow’s ears lower. People bullied Sonic? He had no idea. The hedgehog seemed too strong to let something like that bother him. He nods in understanding, fully getting the message this time.*

I’m sorry I’m in such a pessimistic mood…

*Chaos, what else was he suppose to say?!*

It’s fine, man. We’ve all had moments like those.

(He has, definitely.)

I don’t expect you to understand the death thing. Shadow from my Zone doesn’t and he’s a lot more aware of how it works!

(He tilts his head to the side.)

Also, you’ve got wicked talons. Not that it really bothers me. You get bitten by a small two tailed fox and nothing else matters.

(Sonic snickers. He walks around Shadow just a little before placing his hand on his shoulder, smiling at him. He’s a little mindful of the wings, trying not to do anything with them by accident. He knows it took a lot of trust just to let him massage them.)

You’re not by yourself, though. I’m not gonna sweep in and save your Zone, that’s your thing, but if you need anything I can getcha a chat, a drink, some advice, whatever. Ol’ Sonic’s always available if you wanna ring up. Free of charge.

(He twitches an ear.)

Well, I guess it’s not entirely free of charge. You’re gonna have to give up a little bit of your dignity. And you’re gonna have to extend friendship. Doesn’t seem too costly, though.

*Shadow doesn’t hide his wings like he normally does. Sonic’s already touched them. He has no reason to be uncomfortable with a look. Shadow rolls his eyes.*

But in the end immortality could lead you to being alone. Everyone else dies away. Soon enough you’ll either find yourself becoming callused and cold, or mad with loss.

*Again, he’s talking about himself, but just wishes for him to not pick up on that.*

(Which he does. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out any self referring that Shadow is currently doing. In a sudden gesture, he takes a hold of the black hedgehog’s hands, gazing earnestly into his eyes.)

There’s more to it than that, there’s gotta!
Sometimes you lose people and yeah that’s what happens— But focusing on the people you lost instead of the people you have now is only gonna make you go mad.

You got people now, don’t you? Like me, for instance! I might not be from your Zone but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.
I mean, duh, the massage, but…

(He draws his hands away.)

Back in the day I didn’t have any friends at all. Everyone called me an idiot.
Heck, everyone still calls me an idiot, but at least people like me now.
They used that as an excuse to bully me.

I enjoy the people I have now instead of thinking about that though. And for those I can’t talk to again — like Emerl — well, I’m gonna make the most of what life I have left for those people, because they’ve done a lot for me and it’s only fair that I don’t let it go to waste.

Well, that’s good. At least he’d helping.

I would hate to have that kind of immortality.

But—! Some of it was just because I took a risk… Like the heart exploding thing. I wasn’t intending to die, and I knew there was a chance that I would survive, so I took that chance. I didn’t think it’d happen the first time!

(Unfortunately for Shadow, he does pick up on the agitation, and he shuffles a little closer, putting a finger to his chin as he looks at the wings, then at Shadow.)

(That’s a lame pun and Sonic knows it, but he’s sure that Shadow gets the message.)

Well, my nightmares have new material to work with. Splendid.

… Hey, I’m sorry, man. If it counts for anything, most of them I’d thought were worth it in the end. Granted, a lot of those were pretty stupid, but I had a lotta fun up until it happened.
There were only about two of them that happened ‘cause I wasn’t feeling so great.

And… you know, Shadow’s resurrected me quite a few times. Couldn’t succeed at a lot in the Game without him.

And it’s not like I’m about to do anything like that right now. That’d just be stupid.
You wouldn’t believe me, but I’m a lot happier now than I was when I was younger and didn’t have this weirdass immortality.
